Stephen is a Surrey-based drummer with 13 years of playing experience. Originally from Scotland, Stephen was trained by one of Scotland’s most highly regarded session drummers, Tom Annan.
Although Stephen originally had no intention of pursuing a music qualification, Stephen joined his school’s wind band and big band, both led by multi-instrumentalist Leon Thorne (Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Skerryvore, Martha Reeves) and subsequently joined other musical ensembles, exposing him to a broad range of styles – including funk, soul, big band and pop. From there, he developed a deep passion for drums and decided to pursue it as a career.
Notably, Stephen was resident drummer with indie-blues group GT’s Boos Band from 2013 – 2015. He recorded on the band’s debut album Steak House, which was released to critical acclaim, and played tours in the UK and abroad. Stephen began workshopping the songs for their second self-titled album GT’s Boos Band before leaving the chair. The band appeared on BBC4 UK’s Best Part-Time Band with Rhod Gilbert and Midge Ure in 2015, alongside ska winners, Bombskare.
Freelancing with numerous local theatre companies in Scotland, Stephen has had the opportunity to play on a variety of shows ranging in style, including Legally Blonde, West Side Story, Les Misérables, Rock Of Ages and Oklahoma! Stephen's professional theatre credits include: The 12 Tenors (South Korea/Europe); Sleeping Beauty (UK Productions); Jack And The Beanstalk and Peter Pan (ON Fife).
Other recent credits include: Tally Koren (Royal Albert Hall), The Carpenters Experience (UK wide), Sound Refuge (City Hall, London), Emme Woods and Callanish (various venues across Scotland).
Stephen is currently playing with country-influenced function band The Wilderminds and singer songwriter Markus Michelucci.
